Lisboa–Luanda, a sea journey – 7291 km
This installation is one of the first works of the project ‘Metrication‘; an attempt to understand the abstraction of numbers in relation to distances. The spools of thread, bobbins, used are deliberately wound, their size matching the distance between places.

This work consists of 24303 bobbins, each with 300 meters thread, representing a total distance of 3935 nautical miles = 7291 klm., this is the exact distance between the ports of Lisbon and Luanda. The bobbins are arranged like a giant and colourful tapestry, measuring 17,60 meters length and 2.20 meters height. It can be installed along a long wall or as a freestanding room.
